Aristotle Life And Work

Aristotle is one of the greatest men of letters in the world. He was a great genius who is supposed to have written about 400 books. Many of his works are not treceable. Even the Poetics, his greatest of works, is not avaiable in the original form. All the availabe varsions are made up out of the translations of the notes and lecturers moted down by Aristotle's pupils. Our study of the Poetics is based only on its English translations. Aristotle was born in 384 B. C. at Stagira, modern Stavro, a small town on the north-east coast of the peninsula of Gchalcidice ner Macedonia. His stepfather was domestic doctor to King Amyntas II of Macedonia, and Aristotle may have picked up much information about medical work in boyhood. To this is often attributed his intense interest in physical science, especially in Biology and Physiology.
