William Butler Yeats was born at Sandymount near Dublin on June 13, 1865. His father, John Butler Yeats, was a painter of considerable repute and promise who had Pre - Raphaelite learning. His mother belonged to a well-to-do family of Pollexfens, who lived at Sligo in the West of Ireland. Yeats was influenced both by his father and his mother.
